FAQs

We know entrusting us with something so precious comes with questions. Here are the ones we're asked most often and if there's anything else on your mind, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

How much ash do you need to make a Keepsake Stone?

A small amount goes a long way, typically a tablespoon is more than enough. Any ash we don’t use is returned to you along with your finished piece.

How do I send my loved one’s ashes to you?

Once your order is confirmed, we’ll send you a shipping kit with everything you need: a small sealed bag or vial, a measuring spoon, padded packaging, and a prepaid courier label. Clear, gentle instructions are included, and we’re always here if you have questions along the way.

If you’d prefer not to handle the ashes yourself, we can send the kit to your funeral home or vet clinic instead. Whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Is there a limit to how many Keepsakes can be made from one portion of ashes?

We require approximately one tablespoon of ashes for each stone. If several family members would each like their own Keepsake, please get in touch to discuss.

How long will it take to receive my stone?

Please allow 3–4 weeks from when we receive the ashes and payment, to when your finished Keepsake is ready.

What is the process used to make the stone?

Ashes are carefully mixed into the stone material by hand and set into a mould. Gloves are worn throughout the mixing process, Each stone is then left to dry for around two weeks, followed by one to two days of hand-finishing and careful packaging before it's ready for you.

Will the ashes be visible in the finished stone?

Yes, you will likely see a scattering of flecks throughout the stone.

What happens to any leftover ashes?

Any ashes not used in the stone are returned to you, along with your finished Keepsake.

Can you make a Keepsake for a pet as well as a person?

Yes, the same handcrafted process is available for pets, using the same range of sizes.

What stone sizes and prices are available?

We offer six handcrafted sizes, ranging from $180 to $340.Enter your content...

Can I choose a colour or finish for my stone?

Happy to discuss these options with you direct for any special requests.

Can I add a name, date, or message to the stone?

We add an engraved plaque with your loved ones name and lifespan dates to the box that your stone is packaged in. We also offer an option of an engraved slate stone coaster at an additional cost.  We're unable to engrave directly onto the stone itself.

How do I look after my keepsake stone?

Stones are finished with several layers of polyurethane, which helps protect them and also highlights the stone's unique flecks. They're generally intended as indoor ornaments, though stones kept outdoors have lasted several years. Over time, outdoor stones will gradually break down from exposure to the weather.

Are there other options available besides stones?

We're continually developing our range, and new products will be added to the website as they become available.

Do I need permission to keep my loved one’s ashes at home?

No. Cremated ashes can be stored at home indefinitely, in an urn, box, or other container of your choosing. There are no legal restrictions on how long you keep them or where in your home you store them.

Can I post the ashes through NZ Post or CourierPost?

No — NZ Post’s terms explicitly prohibit sending human or animal ashes through its mail or courier network (this includes CourierPost, which is part of NZ Post), and it will not accept ashes from members of the public. That’s why our shipping kit uses a private, tracked courier service instead.

Is it safe to send ashes by courier?

Yes, when packaged correctly. Our kit is designed so the ashes are double-sealed and cushioned, and the parcel is tracked door to door. We treat every parcel with care and handle it personally on arrival.

Do you deliver the finished keepsake, and do you ship nationwide?

We arrange delivery via courier to you. If you're local, we maybe able to deliver in person.

What if I don’t want to send ashes by courier?

Get in touch with us directly, we’re happy to talk through alternative arrangements, including drop-off if you’re local to Auckland.

Will anyone know what’s inside the parcel?

We keep packaging discreet, so the outer label doesn’t reference the contents. You can be honest with the courier directly about what’s inside if asked, but nothing on the parcel itself identifies it.

Do I need to sign anything before sending ashes?

Yes we ask customers to confirm order details with us and sign a short acknowledgement confirming what’s being sent and consenting to it being used to create your Keepsake. This protects both you and us.
